 Få torde ha missat att det idag var exakt 20 år sedan World Trade Centers tvillingtorn angreps och förstördes av Al Qaeda.

Här är ett lite annorlunda filmminne: Det sex största amerikanska tv-nätverkens nyhetssändningar kvarten efter attacken. Vid 1:30 kommer CNN med filmbilder och en direktrapport och sedan rullar det på tills hela TV är fyllt av WTC....Man kan reflektera över hur tekniskt snabbt den digitala nyhetsförmedlingen fungerar. Samtidigt hur analysen (d v s en kunnig människa, som förklarar det ni ser) inte hinner med...

A Muslim victim of 9/11: 'Build your mosque somewhere else'

En exil-iranska, fördriven från sitt

land av mullorna, miste sin mor i

ett av de kapade flygplanen 9/11.

idén att minnas islamisternas mass-

mord genom att bygga en moské:

I have no grave site to visit, no place to

bring my mother her favorite yellow

flowers, no spot where I can hold my

weary heart close to her. All I have is

Ground Zero.

On the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 11,

2001, I watched as terrorists slammed

United Flight 175 into the South Tower

of the World Trade Center, 18 minutes

after their accomplices on another

hijacked plane hit the North Tower.

My mother was on the flight. I witnessed

her murder on live television.

I still cannot fully comprehend those images.

In that moment, I died as well. I carry a

hole in my heart that will never be filled.

From the first memorial ceremonies I

attended at Ground Zero, I have always

been moved by the site; it means some-

thing to be close to where my mother

may be buried, it brings some peace.

That is why the prospect of a

mosque near Ground Zero --

or a church or a synagogue or

any religious or nationalistic

monument or symbol -- troubles

me.

I was born in pre-revolutionary Iran.

My family led a largely secular existence --

I did not attend a religious school, I never

wore a headscarf -- but for us, as for

anyone there, Islam was part of our heritage,

our culture, our entire lives.

Though I have nothing but contempt for

the fanaticism that propelled the terrorists

to carry out their murderous attacks on

Sept. 11, I still have great respect for the

faith. Yet, I worry that the construction

of the Cordoba House Islamic cultural

center near the World Trade Center site

would not promote tolerance or understanding;

I fear it would become a symbol of

victory for militant Muslims around

the world.

Vi har tidigare kommenterat det van-

vettiga projektet att bygga en stor-

moské 200 meter från platsen för

Ground Zero där 3.500 människor

11 september 2001.

Tyvärr tycks kommunen fullständigt

ointresserade av att stoppa bygget.

Bygglovet är beviljat. Finansieringen

ordnad och presidentens välvilja strålar

över projektet.

Den islamistiska moskéen är det största

hånet mot WTC-offren och deras

anhöriga som någon sjuk hjärna

kunde tänka ut....

A “last-chance” public hearing to block the proposed

13-story $100 million mosque planned near Ground

Zero, the site of the 9/11 attack on New York Tuesday

puts Mayor Bloomberg on the defense. He has rejected

opponents’ demands that the backers of the plan be

investigated for possible links with terrorists or terrorist

groups.

New York City officials already have approved

the project, and the only hope by opponents to

block its construction is to convince the Landmark

Preservation Commission to prevent the demolition

of the 152-year-old Cordova House warehouse in

order to make way for a mammoth Muslim

community center and house of worship.

Opposition groups from a wide spectrum of the

population—ranging from Jews to Sikhs—staged

a large demonstration in early June against

the planned mosque.
The Park Place site is 600 feet from the area

where Muslim suicide terrorists hijacked two

planes and aimed them at the two towering

Twin Towers in the early morning, when the

planes’ fuel tanks were full.

The resulting explosion and intense fire

melted the metal structures, toppling the

towers and killing nearly 3,500 people,

including police officers and firefighters

who arrived to control the blaze and

cordon off the area. One of the engines

of the hijacked planes crashed into the

Cordova House roof, causing severe

damage.

Mayor Bloomberg has taken heat for not

conducting a probe into the backers of

the mosque project, while Republican

gubernatorial hopeful Rick Lazio last

week called on Attorney General Andrew

Cuomo, his Democratic opponent, to

conduct a probe. Lazio questioned the

sympathies of the center’s backers, and

said that “the people have a right to know

if this ‘charity’ is using its resources in a

legitimate, legal, and charitable way.”

Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch,

has charged that “the imam behind [the]

proposed mosque near Ground Zero is a

prominent member of a group that helped

sponsor the pro-Palestinian activists who

clashed violently with Israeli commandos

at sea.
"Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is a key figure in

Malaysian-based Perdana Global Peace

Organization, according to its website.

Perdana is the single biggest donor ($366,000)

so far to the Free Gaza Movement, a key

organizer of the six-ship flotilla that tried to

break Israel's blockade of Hamas-run Gaza"

May 31.

the way to the memorial,”

Roman Gertsberg, a Queens resident who

lost his only daughter Marina in the terrorist

attack told am/NY.

Building a mosque just several blocks away

from Ground Zero is an insult and an affront

to every single person that was killed on

9/11, to their families, to the first responders

and every concerned American who cherishes

liberty, democracy and freedom,”

Pamela Geller, executive director of 'Stop the

Islamization of America',” said at last month’s

protest.

Tuesday’s hearings, which are expected to be

hotly contested, are expected to last for two

hours, but a decision will not be announced

Islamister angriper 9/11-minneshögtid

angriper och stoppar en minneshögtid över 11 september....

Polisen konstaterar att de inte klarar av att försvara den

lagliga manifestationen.

- Vi kan inte klara det. Jag vill inte ha några poliser

dödade, säger polisens insatschef i Harrow.

Och sedan griper man "för säkerhets skull" arrangören av

den legala demonstrationen.....

Note that the SIOE demonstration didn't even take place. The people who were responsible for the violence were the Muslim counter-demonstrators. There is an awful lot of passive voice in this egregious BBC story, but what happened is still more or less clear. The mainstream media only generally breaks out the passive voice in large quantities when it doesn't want to identify the perpetrators -- after all, one wouldn't want to appear "Islamophobic," eh wot?

"Eight arrested in mosque protest," from the BBC, September 11 (thanks to all who sent this in):

Eight people have been arrested during a demonstration outside a mosque in north-west London where an anti-Islamic protest was planned. About 1,000 people gathered outside Harrow Central Mosque as activists from Stop Islamification of Europe planned to demonstrate outside the mosque.Unite Against Fascism were also present to "defend the mosque", they said.

So it's "fascist" to oppose the spread of an ideology that would extinguish free speech, freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of women with men and of people of all creeds? Tell me another.

Bricks, bottles and firecrackers were thrown at police officers who are present in riot gear at the scene.

Just after 2000 BST, police said there were a small number of people in the area. Mobile patrols are continuing in a bid to reassure residents. Earlier, hundreds of youths, some covering their faces with scarves, were in the area and there were skirmishes with police as some demonstrators broke a police cordon.

"Youths" -- heretofore this code word for Islamic jihadist thugs was restricted to continental usage.

'Saddened and dismayed'

Stop Islamification of Europe (SIOE) said they planned a "peaceful protest" against the building of a five-storey mosque next to the Harrow Central Mosque.But in a message on their website SIOE said the protest had been called off and organiser Stephen Gash had been arrested.The posting read: "If you are on your way to the demo, don't go, it's being called off right now.

"The police can't handle the Muslim counter-demonstrators. The senior sergeant said that he doesn't want any of his policemen killed."Seven people were arrested for possession of offensive weapons including a hammer, a chisel and bottles of bleach.Police believe these arrests were not linked to the SIOE protest.

Another person was arrested to prevent a breach of the peace, police said.Police also stopped a number of people, who they believed were heading for the anti-Islamist protest, from getting to the protest area."If the SIOE demonstration started it would have resulted in serious disorder," a statement from police said....
And so SIOE leader Stephen Gash was "arrested to prevent a breach of the peace." Think about that for a moment. "Arrested to prevent a breach of the peace."

believe that any future attack will be made by

terrorists with an "American face".
They point to reports of white faces in terrorism

training camps in Pakistan - the so-called "white

men of Waziristan", a reference to the remote

tribal area where both al-Qaeda and the

Taliban have bases.
Experts believe that dozens of westerners have

undergone such training as their leaders try

to recruit non-Middle Eastern Asians, particularly

ethnic Caucasians, who are less likely to attract

the attention of security and law enforcement agencies.

Terrorism experts say such a threat has been

known about even before the arrest of Richard

Reid, the British shoe bomber. However, it was

not until three weeks ago that a US official explicitly

admitted that the government knew of such people

being trained in significant numbers.
In a little reported speech, Ted Gistaro, the US

national intelligence officer for transnational threats,

said that al-Qaeda was training and "positioning"

its operatives for attacks in the West, probably

including the US.

and European citizens, and legal residents with

passports that allow them to travel to the United

States without a US visa."
