Fjordman - en nutida dissident

Den ryske dissidenten Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn hyllades med rätta i väst när han på 1970-talet avslöjade Sovjetunionens Gulagläger. Andra bullar blir det dock när dissidenter reser sig ur egna led och kritiserar rådande västerländska föreställningar.

En på senare tid rådande föreställning är idén om öppna gränser och alla religioners jämlika status. Denna idé har banat politisk väg för islamiska parallellsamhällen i hela Västeuropa, där könssegregation, hedersförtryck men också jihadistiska hot har blivit en del av europeisk vardag. En negativ utveckling till följd av att väst kompromissat med sin egen identitet.

En av de tidigaste européer att rycka i varningsklockan är norrmannen Peder Jensen. Jensen, född 1975, studerade vid American University i Kairo när terroristattacken mot USA ägde rum den 11 september 2001. Han noterade hur hans arabiska grannar firade terrordådet.

Men det som förvånade honom mer var att Europa tycktes helt blind för den islamiska världens förakt för väst. Europa levde i vanföreställningen att den islamiska världen hade samma relativistiska syn på religion som Europa hade. Han kunde på plats bevittna att så inte var fallet.

När Jensen återvände till Norge ville han varna för islamiseringen i Europa. Han började blogga under smeknamnet Fjordman och uppmärksammade tidigt att Malmö hade högre brottslighet än den större staden Köpenhamn. Malmö hade också en avsevärt högre invandring.

Den 22 juli 2011 sprängde Anders Behring Breivik en bomb i Oslo och sköt ihjäl 69 socialdemokratiska ungdomar på ön Utøya.

I Breiviks manifest citeras Fjordman och norsk media var snabba med att stämpla Jensen som ”Breiviks profet”. Detta trots att Jensen aldrig uppmanat till våld eller uppviglat till hat. Polisen genomsökte olagligt hans hem och han kunde inte vistas i offentligheten. Han hade, mot sin vilja, blivit synonym med Breiviks ondska.

Efter några månader flydde han landet. I exil fick han se karriärslystna författare som Simen Sætre och Öyvind Strömmen skriva böcker om honom och föreläsa som ”Fjordman-experter”. Han skulle inte få skriva, bara bli omskriven. Så var även fallet i Sovjetunionen, där storskalig svartmålning drevs mot Solzhenitsyn som tvingades till exil i väst.

Jensen återvände till Norge efter några år, men nekades såväl byråkratiska som fysiska jobb. Två arbetsgivare sa öppet att det berodde på vem han var, eller den som media utmålat honom för att vara. I själva verket var han helt ostraffad och hade före den 22 juli 2011 arbetat deltid med barn med autism. Media hade gjort honom till ”Breiviks profet”.

I sin bok ”Vitne til vanvidd” beskriver Jensen sina upplevelser och demonterar Breiviks manifest och psyke. Han konstaterar att Breivik sannolikt var psykiskt sjuk och ingen ideolog.

Den norske överläkaren Fred Heggen, som när känslorna svallade efter den 22 juli, ansåg att Breivik var frisk, meddelade för några dagar sedan att han nu anser att Breivik var en psykiskt sjuk galning. Men norsk media hade gjort allt för att utmåla Breivik som en ideolog för att därmed kunna kasta ut ett bredare nät över Jensen och alla som kritiserade den rådande idén om massinvandring.

I motsats till Solzhenitsyn så kommer Peder Jensen inte från ett totalitärt samhälle. Det ingår således inga Gulagläger i hans berättelse. Men Jensen är precis som Solzhenitsyn en dissident. En person som straffas av den egna staten och det egna majoritetssamhället för att han berättar en sanning som regimens makthavare inte vill ska förtäljas. Nyligen gjorde han med norska document.no sin hittills enda videointervju. Den blockerades av Youtube.

Vi i väst lever i tron att här inte finns några dissidenter, eftersom våra samhällen är demokratiska. Men mot frestelsen att välja lögn framför sanning ger inget statsskick immunitet. När lögnen tar över statsmakten eller de statliga diskurserna, reser sig alltid dissidenterna. De som likt en kompass vill peka på vägen tillbaka mot sanningen. Istället för att häckla borde vi lyssna.

Tioårsminnet av en landsflykt

 

Sjunne.com skriver om hur Utöya-massakern utnyttjades till ett mediadrev mot alla islamistkritiker. Fjordman välkänd för många års avslöjande artiklar om islamismen som ett hot mot Västerlandet drevs t o m i landsflykt från Norge sedan slaskpressen beskyllt honom för att ha "inspirerat" galningen Breivik...Men nog var det Europas ryggradslösa politiker som "öppnade slussportarna" för massinvandring och islamisering som mer än några andra inspirerade galningar som Breivik...

Den 22 juli 2021 är det tio år sedan Anders Behring Breivik mördade unga norska socialdemokrater på ön Utøya efter att ha sprängt inne vid regeringskvarteren i Oslo. Vi kan räkna med många vinklade och undermåliga minnesprogram och att vänsterpartisten Ali Esbati får inte bara tala i SvD. Sveriges Radio har redan vevat igång tre avsnitt från den norska statsradion.

För att balansera den rådande ovederhäftiga synen på islam- och invandringskritiker, som förstärktes av massakern i Norge, ska jag lägga upp länkar till en norrman som var berörd genom att Breivik läste hans inlägg men inte inblandad, Peder Fjordman Jensen.

Jag har träffat honom flyktigt i Köpenhamn och vet att han tillhör de sakliga islamkritikerna som Douglas Murray, Hans Rustad, Lars Hedegaard,  Hege Storhaug, Bruce Bawer, Mark Steyn, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Daniel Pipes, Robert Spencer m fl.

I remember watching a drone video during the height of the immigrant influx to Europe in 2015. The scenes were absurd. With the huge masses of people on the move, it resembled a film of some kind. At one point, I thought it looked vaguely like a zombie movie.

Then the thought occurred to me: If this is a zombie movie, who are the zombies here? We, or the migrants?

While not being a huge fan of the genre, I have seen a couple of zombie movies. Zombies are often portrayed as creatures with very limited remaining functioning brain capacity. Basically, they move around aimlessly and make incoherent sounds. Apart from a desire to feed, they have no clearly discernible goals.

This description does not fit the many illegal immigrants from the Islamic world and Africa that are forcing their way into Europe. These people have very clearly defined goals in their brains and pursue these goals with determination. They certainly want our wealth and status. Some of them probably want our lands.

The people who act the most like zombies in today’s reality are many Europeans. An example of this would be Stefan Löfven. He has been the leader of the Swedish Social Democrats since 2012 and the Prime Minister of Sweden since 2014.
 

In early April 2017, the Swedish broadcaster TV4 showed secret footage of the privately-run Al-Azhar Primary School in a Stockholm suburb. Boys were seen entering a bus from the front and girls from the back. The Muslim school’s vice principal claimed it had no intention of separating children by sex.[1]

“I think this is despicable. This doesn’t belong in Sweden,” Prime Minister Stefan Löfven told reporters. “We take the bus together here, regardless if you’re a girl or a boy, woman or a man.”[2]

Löfven was shocked to discover that some of the Muslims he and others have admitted to his country still behave like Muslims. PM Löfven seems to move from place to place in a continuous state of shock and disbelief. Just a few days later, he was shocked again.
 

On April 7, 2017, a Muslim man drove a hijacked beer truck at high speed through crowds in a busy pedestrian street in central Stockholm before crashing into a department store. Four people were killed and many seriously wounded.

The terrorist came from Uzbekistan in Central Asia. His application for residency was rejected in June 2016. He was being sought by immigration officials, but had remained in the country illegally. Police say the man had expressed sympathy for Jihadist groups such as the Islamic State.[3]

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven stated that the country was “in a state of shock” over the attack.[4] I was not. I was dismayed by the deadly brutality, of course, but not at all surprised that such an attack took place. In fact, I had predicted it less than a week earlier.
 

A previous Islamic terror attack in Sweden took place on December 11, 2010. It, too, happened on a busy street in central Stockholm. The terrorist Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, an Iraqi-born Swedish citizen, carried out the first Muslim suicide bombing in Scandinavia.[5] Fortunately, he only managed to kill himself. However, he could have murdered many people that day.

Since then there had not been a Muslim terror attack in Sweden for more than six years. This is remarkable, given how many Muslim Jihadists the country has imported and exported during that same time period.
 

I discussed this puzzling fact with some Swedish friends in early April 2017. The only explanation we could come up with is that Sweden is viewed by militant Muslims as such a useful and submissive host that they choose not to target it just yet. They prefer to be pampered by the welfare state, receive free healthcare and perhaps have sex with some local women, with or without their consent.

However, I pointed out that Belgium had been in a similar situation before. It has long been a breeding ground for Jihadists. With the Brussels bombings on March 22, 2016, Jihadists then launched mass casualty attacks in Belgium itself.
 

Sweden was now in a comparable situation. In early 2017, it was revealed that more than 150 militant Muslims had returned to Sweden after having supported the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).[6] These people have directly or indirectly supported brutal terrorist attacks, massacres, beheadings and slave auctions. Nevertheless, they are not arrested. On the contrary.

The policy is that local municipalities offer them driving licenses and housing grants in order to reintegrate these hardened Jihadists into Swedish society.[7]

A country simply cannot import and export a large number of militant Muslims for years and itself remain immune from the Muslim terror threat. By that logic, an Islamic terrorist attack on Swedish soil was long overdue. The only surprising thing about the attack in Stockholm is that so many people are surprised.
 

The reactions to the Stockholm terror attack are predictable: Nothing really changes. A few days of tears, candles and singing. Then business as usual.

Western mass media and political elites no longer respond rationally to genuine threats. Whatever functioning brain power they still possess is used to implement a Globalist agenda of open borders and mass migration.
 

However, sometimes one gets the impression that they really do not think much at all. Western ruling elites behave in an almost zombie-like manner. They mindlessly walk from disaster to disaster, never understanding what caused the previous catastrophe and not doing anything substantial to prevent the next one.

Is this what we have been reduced to? A civilization of zombies?

Sweden’s Suicide Pact

Imagine a country where the Prime Minister announces that new elections are needed, just a few months after the previous general elections were held. Then suddenly, the PM changes his mind a couple of weeks later and states that no new elections are needed, after all. Surely, this must be a banana republic? Well, the country in question is Sweden. The Prime Minister’s name is Stefan Löfven, a Social Democrat. Some outside observers may wonder whether Sweden during December 2014 took a major leap towards banana republic status. Or perhaps we should say banana monarchy, since Swedes still have a king.
At the same time, a 15-year-old boy was arrested after an explosion rocked Malmö, Sweden’s third-largest city, on Christmas Eve. The blast was the fourth in the area within a short period. “If you’re 15 years old then you don’t have the know how to make explosives. So we assume he wasn’t alone,” police spokesperson Ewa-Gun Westford told the news agency TT. Residents of the immigrant-dominated area of Rosengård in Malmö, the most Islamic city in Scandinavia, say that living there is a “disaster.” Burning cars, bombs and attacks with hand grenades have become commonplace. People are scared to go outside after dark. Many want to move.

After several bomb attacks in Malmö, the road by the local police station in Davidshall has been sealed off. “It isn’t about a specific threat, rather a general precaution to increase safety,” police spokesperson Stephan Söderholm told local radio. As far away as India, newspaper readers can read about car bombs in Sweden.
On December 27 2014, Sweden’s government announced that it has scrapped plans to hold a snap election in early 2015. Crisis talks were held between Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and the center-right Alliance parties to ensure that a minority government can govern. The so-called “December agreement” is valid until 2022. The Sweden Democrats, who won nearly 13 percent of the vote in the September 2014 elections, triggered a political crisis by voting against the Social Democrat/Green coalition’s budget as a protest against the government’s immigration policies. The new deal implies that no other party will cooperate with the Sweden Democrats. Everybody else treats them and their voters like pariahs, including the mass media.
Mattias Karlsson, the acting party leader of the SD, blasted PM Löfven and the Alliance parties and commented that the Sweden Democrats are now the main opposition party in the country. He called for a vote of no confidence in the current Prime Minister. “He doesn’t deserve to govern Sweden,” Karlsson stated.
In theory, there are eight different parties represented in the Swedish Parliament (Riksdagen). In reality, there are only two parties: The United Front for National Suicide vs. the Sweden Democrats. The other parties may have their differences here and there. However, when it comes to continued mass immigration and dismantling the Swedish nation state, they act like a hydra with seven heads.
Per capita, Sweden currently accepts the highest number of asylum seekers of any European country. When foreigners can read in their newspapers about car bombs in Sweden’s immigrant ghettos, perhaps it would be a good idea to at least slow down the current pace of immigration, if not halt mass immigration completely. The Swedish political establishment will have none of it, however. They want more mass immigration, no matter how little money and how many car bombs, gang rapes or public shoot-outs they have.

With the December agreement, the Swedish ruling establishment have created a kind of political cartel, joined together by a mutual suicide pact. They indicate that they will not cooperate with the Sweden Democrats under any circumstances, even if the SD should get 20-25% of the vote next time.
Whether the other parties will be able to stick to this policy as long as the SD keep growing is uncertain. However, the fact that they are openly trying to stigmatize and isolate a large number of Swedish voters sends out some dangerous signals. A growing number of Swedes now view the Sweden Democrats as the only viable peaceful and democratic alternative to the ongoing destruction of their nation. It is unwise to block the only peaceful alternative still left to frustrated Swedes. Such a move will heighten tensions even further. The polarization of Swedish society will probably continue to grow, and perhaps reach unhealthy levels.
If Sweden decides to commit national suicide, this is deeply regrettable. However, they have no right to drag their neighbors down with them. The Scandinavian and Nordic countries are today members of the Schengen Agreement. I am strongly opposed to this agreement and think all European countries should pull out of it. I have been on the record for years as stating that the European Union (EU) in its present form should be dismantled. Yet the Nordic countries have other agreements that predate any made with the EU.
The Nordic Passport Union dates back to the 1950s. It allows citizens of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland to travel and reside in other Nordic countries without a passport or a residence permit. Nordic citizens are to some extent treated like local citizens in other Nordic countries. This arrangement worked well in the past. Most people in Denmark, Norway or Finland will not mind if a few Swedes come to work and settle in their countries. The problem is this: a rapidly increasing number of people carrying a Swedish passport are no longer ethnic Swedes, or even Europeans. The hordes of Arabs, Somalis, Pakistanis and others which Sweden is now foolishly allowing into the country may not always remain in Sweden. If or when the money runs out to finance this heavy economic burden, these immigrants may look for other countries to loot.

Sweden’s suicidal madness has now reached a level where it must be treated as a security threat to neighboring countries. The authorities in Denmark, Norway and Finland should publicly declare that if Sweden maintains its current levels of immigration, other Nordic countries have no choice but to suspend the Nordic Passport Union and reestablish effective national border controls. Unfortunately, Danish, Norwegian and Finnish authorities are probably not ready to do this yet. However, if the situation in Sweden continues to deteriorate, its neighbors will be left with no choice but to protect themselves against Sweden’s self-inflicted problems as best as they can.

Why is This Not Betrayal?

It is dismissed as a “crazy conspiracy theory” if one suggests that Western political elites actively support the Islamization of Europe and the Western world. Yet one might argue that this is not a conspiracy theory — or even a theory — merely an observation.

The more Muslims and people who champion Islamic ideas imported into a society, the more Islamic influence there will be in that society. This is basic logic: if you import large numbers of Muslims to a country, you get more Islamization. It’s pretty simple, really.

 

So let us ask a simple question: Do Western governments allow large numbers of Muslims to settle in Western countries? Yes or no? The answer is obviously yes, as we can easily observe all around us. Western authorities have for decades been in the process of importing large numbers of Muslims to our countries. Since more Muslims means more Islam, this implies that Western authorities actively support the gradual Islamization of our countries.
If you find this to be a provocative observation, then ask yourself the following question: If Western political elites, ruling authorities and mass media really and truly object to the growing Islamic presence in our societies, then exactly what are they doing to curb this growth, apart from some mostly symbolic gestures?
As long as they are not doing anything substantial to halt or even slow down Muslim immigration, they are in fact supporting the continued, gradual Islamization of our countries. There is no other way to put it.



What can be done?
A hard-line option might be to say explicitly that Islamic culture is incompatible with our culture. Therefore, Muslim immigration to all European and Western nations will be immediately and permanently halted. This will probably be seen as too provocative by many people, however.

A more plausible alternative might be to say that while many Muslims might be fine people as individuals, much of the Islamic world is currently in such a state of unrest and turmoil that we need to protect our own societies as much as we can from this. We are therefore sad to announce that we must, for an indefinite time period, suspend any immigration from this part of the world.
An even more moderate solution might be not to say anything about Muslims or Islam at all. Western governments could simply state that our share of the world’s population keeps dropping rapidly. Moreover, we have plenty of problems of our own to deal with. The unemployment rate in several southern European countries is above 20%, with youth unemployment exceeding 40% in some places. It does not make sense in this situation to import millions of more people when we cannot provide work to those who are already here.
With social problems and debt to take care of, we need to put our own house in order first. While we harbor no ill will towards other peoples and nations, we therefore regret to announce that we will have to suspend large-scale immigration from any part of the world until we have put our own house back in order again.

It is possible to understand why, for pragmatic reasons, Western authorities do not choose the confrontational approach and state openly that Islamic culture is incompatible with our culture. However, it is much more difficult to understand and accept why Western governments cannot choose one of the two other options.
They can simply state that due to the turmoil that exists in many parts of the Middle East and the Islamic world, we need to take steps to protect our borders more firmly. If we need to withdraw from certain naïve human rights conventions in order to reestablish effective control over our national borders, then we must do so.

Furthermore, the percentage that Western societies constitute of the global population and the global economy keeps shrinking fast. We are not all-powerful. Moreover, we have distinct national cultures that we would like to preserve, too. Our countries are the homelands of distinct peoples with a shared history, not empty bowls only to be filled by shopping and human rights.

"En av de saker man påstår om islamkritiska skribenter är att de lider av paranoia om en hemlig islamisk konspiration för att islamisera Europa och Västvärlden. Det är naturligtvis inte sant. Ingen har heller sagt att den är hemlig, åtminstone inte fullständigt. Det långsiktiga målet för den islamiska teologin är att islam ska triumfera över hela världen, inklusive Europa och Västvärlden. Detta är mainstream islam, den har existerat i århundraden och är inte någon ny uppfinning av några radikala individer.

 

Dessutom är sanningen så långt ifrån överdriven att till och med islamkritiker blir förvånade av hur snabbt det går, och av hur många västliga ledare som viker ner sig för islamiska påtryckningar.

I Danmark publicerades 2003 boken I krigens hus: Islams kolonisering af Vesten (I krigets hus: Islams kolonisering av Väst), skriven av författarna Helle Merete Brix, Torben Hansen och Lars Hedegaard. Enligt dem upplever vi nu den tredje stora jihadvågen, ännu ett försök att erövra, kolonisera och islamisera Europa – det som araberna och turkarna hade ägnat århundranden åt att försöka. Precis som förväntat hånades de modiga författarna för sina varningar, mest aggressiva var folk på vänsterkanten.

 

Till exempel avfärdade Michael Jarlner i vänstertidningen Politiken i sin recension boken som ”elak”. Han hävdade att ”yrandet” från dem som slog larm om den pågående islamiseringen av Europa led av ”vanföreställningar” och ”fördomsfull paranoia av värsta sort”.

 

Den konservative kolumnisten Mikael Jalving erkände några år senare att han inte heller tagit påståendena om islamisering på allvar. Emellertid kom han senare att inse att det kanske trots allt låg något i varningarna. Tittar man tillbaka på de två senaste generationerna, har många varningar visat sig bli verklighet. En del var till och med underdrivna. Jag var själv naiv kring en del av dessa frågor så sent som i slutet av 1990-talet. Jag insåg helt enkelt inte den fulla omfattningen av den demografiska och kulturella förvandling som var på gång. Jag är inte stolt över det, men jag var dum. Jag trodde på det jag lärt mig i skolan och av massmedierna.
Det finns dock en gräns för hur dum man får bara. Problemen är nu så stora att de är omöjliga att ignorera. De finns runt omkring oss och kan ses av alla med ögon. Tiden håller på att rinna ut. Det är inte längre trovärdigt eller acceptabelt för människor i maktposition att hävda att de ”inte visste”.
 
Det är djupt oansvarigt och ett massivt svek mot kommande generationer européer att fortsätta den misslyckade politiken med massinvandring och öppna gränser, i förhoppningen om att det ”ska bli bra i slutänden”. Detta är ett gigantiskt socialt experiment med en hel kontinent och en hel civilisation. Det måste upphöra."

In their book about the EU, Richard North and Christopher

Booker conclude: "The project Monnet had set on its way

was a vast, ramshackle, self-deluding monster: partly

suffocating in its own bureaucracy; partly a corrupt racket

The one thing above all the project could never be,

because by definition it had never been intended to

be, was in the remotest sense democratic."

They believe the EU is doomed and will "leave a terrible

devastation behind it, a wasteland from which it would

take many years for the peoples of Europe to emerge."

I understand concerns that the destruction of the EU

could cause "instability" in Europe. It will. But we will

probably end up with "instability" anyway, given the

number of Muslims the EUrabians have let in.

The choice is between a period of painful years in

which most of Europe prevails, and death, where E

urope simply ceases to exist as a Western cultural

entity.

Some would hope that we could keep the "positive"

aspects of the EU and not "throw out the baby with

the bath water." I beg to differ.

The EU is all bath water, no baby.

There never was a baby, just a truckload of

overpaid babysitters.

"Jan Oskar Engene, an Associate Professor in

Comparative Politics at the University of

Bergen specializing in terrorism, warned

observers against trying to construct an

elaborate ideology behind Anders Behring

Breivik’s mass murder, since it’s not clear

that the uneducated Breivik espouses a

coherent ideology.

He suggested that what ABB stated in court

was rather incoherent and did not always

appear genuine, and feared that others might

try to create a more sophisticated ideology

where Breivik himself appeared mainly to

harbor confused ideas.

Unfortunately, Engene’s timely warning has

not always been heeded. The mass murderer

is just too useful as a stick for the ruling

Multiculturalists to beat their opponents

over the head. Any serious attempt to

analyze his so-called manifesto will find

it full of inconsistencies, however, including

a few surprisingly pro-Islamic views.

Left-wing organizations love to highlight

the fact that the absurdly long manifesto/

compendium of 1,518 pages contains a few

citations of or references to the Center for

Security Policy‘s President Frank Gaffney,

the Investigative Project on Terrorism’s

Director Steven Emerson, as well as the

Middle East Media Research Institute

(MEMRI).

Yes, but these are individuals and groups

dedicated to tracking and monitoring

terrorism, not promoting it.

Breivik also quoted many Muslims and

Marxists, even the Communist leader

Fidel Castro.

As good and recommended literature,

ABB highlighted the Bible, Machiavelli,

George Orwell, Thomas Hobbes, John

Stuart Mill, John Locke, Adam Smith,

Edmund Burke, Ayn Rand and William

James, which can hardly be called

terrorist literature.

One has to question very seriously just

how much Breivik has personally read,

let alone understood, in most of these

works.

Steven Emerson’s Investigative Project

on Terrorism (IPT) has analyzed over

1,600 personal names mentioned in

Breivik’s manifesto 2083 — A European

Declaration of Independence.

IPT’s research establishes that quite a

few conservative writers are mentioned

there, but also many liberals and leftists

as well as various Christians and Muslims

plus numerous historical figures and writers.

All together, the IPT counted 84 names

mentioned ten or more times in 2083,

encompassing a wide and somewhat

unfocused range of different figures and

ideologies. Among leftist thinkers, Karl

Marx was mentioned 27 times, followed

by Theodor Adorno (26), George Lukacs (26),

Herbert Marcuse (24), Antonio Gramsci (23),

Thomas Hylland Eriksen (21), Colin Barker (20),

and Friedrich Nietzsche (10).

Hylland Eriksen may be described as a center-

left ideologue in favor of mass immigration,

whereas Nietzsche’s complex and controversial

ideas defy simple political characterization.

Leftist politicians mentioned in the manifesto

include Tony Blair (20 times), Barack Hussein

Obama (19), Andrew Neather (15), Javier Solana

(12), Romano Prodi (12), and Gordon Brown (11).

Muslims: Anwar Shaaban (48 times), Islam’s

founder and prophet Muhammad (36), Osama

bin Laden (29), Yasser Arafat (19), the Ottoman

Sultan Abdul Hamid (15), Abu Talal al-Qasimy

(13), Ahmad Abu Laban (12), Ibn Khaldun (12),

Abu Hamid Muhammad al-Ghazali (11), Hasan

al-Banna (11), and Sayyid Qutb (11).

Christian figures: Jesus Christ (mentioned 63

times in the text), Pope Urban II (13), Patriarch

Nasrallah Sfeir (12), Michael the Syrian (11), and

Saint Bernard of Clairvaux (10).

Random historical figures: Charles Martel (53

times), Adolf Hitler (50), Winston Churchill (23),

Duke Odo of Aquitaine (21), John III Sobieski

(19), Thomas Jefferson (18), Napoleon Bonaparte

(17), Sitting Bull (14), and Benjamin Disraeli (10).

Some of the great many writers encountered were

Aristotle (25 times), Ivo Andrić (20), William

Shakespeare (20), Plato (16), Salman Rushdie

(16), George Orwell (12), Wilhelm Reich (12),

and Sigmund Freud (11).

The most frequently mentioned individuals

in the manifesto are: Bat Ye’or (71), Fjordman

(63), Jesus Christ (63), Robert Spencer (54),

Charles Martel (53), Shaykh Anwar Shaaban

(48), Adolf Hitler (50) and Mohammed (36).

The American author Daniel Pipes shares ninth

place with the Dutch politician Geert Wilders

and the Islamic Jihadist terrorist leader

Osama bin Laden, all with 29 mentions, just

edging out Karl Marx with 27.

As Dr. Pipes commented, it is somewhat

bizarre to be ranked alongside Osama bin

Laden and ahead of Karl Marx in importance.

 I’m sure it is.

It is even more bizarre for me to share the

same ranking as Jesus Christ.

The entire mix is quite bizarre.

Breivik’s manifesto comes off as a mixed

bag; some would say an incoherent mess.

Left-wing critics might suggest that the

conservative names are quoted in a positive

light whereas the left-wing ones are seen

in a negative light. Yet this is not always

the case.

Breivik has been routinely described as

“anti-Islamic” in the mainstream press.

I was therefore surprised to encounter

a significant number of implicitly or

explicitly pro-Islamic viewpoints cham-

pioned in his manifesto.

His understanding of “martyrdom” as

linked to murder is much more closely

tied to a Muslim shahiid, an Arabic term

often translated as “martyr” in

European languages, than it is to

traditional Christian martyrs.

A Muslim shahiid is not just one who

dies for his faith, as Jesus did, but

can be understood as one who murders

others for their beliefs and happens to

die himself in the process.

Breivik openly praises this Islamic concept

of martyrdom and wants to emulate some

of the Islamic rituals performed by Jihadists.

On pages 1,074-1,075 he wrote about

“Learning from the Muslims,” especially

when it comes to “martyrs” and the

treatment of them.
