A young Afghan woman on breaking free of the burqa

It was dehumanising to grow up in Afghanistan under a veil. I escaped but others are now ensnared, says Sultana

I HATED WEARING a burqa. It made me itch, it made me sweat. And it made me invisible. Mine was blue with a small lace opening for the eyes, though underneath I wore a short-sleeved dress and tights. Walking in a burqa, I lost my usual confident gait: I hung my head lower, both hands clutching the edge of the fabric so I wouldn’t stumble. The very fact of wearing it made me feel inferior. To leave the house, when I became a teenager about a decade ago, I had to transform myself into a thing.

My way of protesting was to go out as little as possible, which seemed to be the only way I could protect my individuality. At home, I created a world of my own. But the desire to be part of the outside world never left me. I yearned to walk on the street and eat street food, swim in the lakes and know every corner of my town in a southern province of the country—to participate in life directly rather than simply observe it through my veil.

Our front door had a peephole that looked out onto the alley. Through it, I could see men buying snacks, old men sitting and chatting, or boys flying kites, playing cricket and riding bikes. I imagined how it would feel to walk there and interact with the world. Would I remember how to smile at people? Look them in the eye?

My parents, too, wanted me to step into my fullest potential. When other mothers praised their daughters for their cooking and housework, mine would claim that a woman’s real jewel is her education. When other fathers focused on how quickly they could marry their daughters, my father laughed if someone came to our house with a marriage proposal.

On some nights, when the neighbourhood was sleeping and only stray dogs occupied the roads, my father would walk with me outside the house to give me a taste of the world without a burqa. In the shadow of moonlight, we would stroll, hearing the sounds of crickets and dogs rummaging through rubbish. With each step I took, I felt free. Once my father disguised me as a boy to swim in the river that I used to go to when I was a child. At home, my parents allowed me to listen to music as loud as I pleased. In the late afternoon, after arriving home from work, my father and I would dance to melodic Tajik music. He didn’t want me to forget what it felt like to be free.

Sometimes I would get angry and loudly complain that I was forced to cage myself in a burqa. My mother would look at me with a solemn expression, place her hand on my head, and say, “Be someone who can leave this place.” She encouraged me to learn English.

And I did. Armed with an iPad, the internet and a free education website called Khan Academy, I taught myself English. And philosophy. And maths. And science. And history. I wanted to understand the world in every way possible, and my place in it. Solving maths problems gave structure to the uncertain world I was living in, even if just in my head. I felt liberated when I first learned to make a graph of a linear equation. On the page, drawing a two-dimensional co-ordinate plane and graphing an equation, the world was in my control.

Learning through a screen ten years ago was safer than going to school. There were several road-side suicide-bombings, and the building was occasionally used by the Taliban as base for attacks on government buildings. Besides, female students were threatened by the Taliban with having acid poured on them for attending classes.

It was different when my mother was a child in the 1960s. It was an era of hope: schools were opening for girls and wearing a burqa was not mandatory. In the evenings, when the room was dimly lit by the light of the heater, my mother would tell stories of her past, of a normal Afghanistan.

She spoke about the freedom she enjoyed and the choices women had in life, other than getting married. My mother grew up in an Afghanistan that was modernising. Her father wished her to become an educated and free woman. The wish came true. She became a lecturer at Kabul University. Sporting short hair, wearing a long skirt and blouse, she would walk to her classroom, filled with both male and female students. She even received a fellowship to study in Germany, but the civil war started and she wasn’t able to go.

Through these stories, I realised that Afghan women have the capacity to achieve something great in their lives. My mother believed that no matter how difficult the situation, you should always focus on what you can change. “Of course, you can’t change everything, but you can always change something,” she often reminded me when I got frustrated with the challenges that I had to face as a young Afghan woman.

So I studied. While most young women my age were getting married, I was learning how to argue like Socrates or apply mathematics like Newton. With each new thing I learned, I began to feel alive, like a plant that blooms when it gets water after it has been parched and dying. By allowing me the freedom of education, if only behind the four walls of our home, my parents gave me a window onto the world. More than that, they gave me the tools to create my own identity and make myself visible again.

Around five years ago, as the situation in Afghanistan deteriorated, I didn’t want its fate to become my own. I accepted a scholarship to study maths and science in America, leaving my parents in Afghanistan, with their blessing and encouragement. Today I am a university researcher in America and have published in my scientific field.

Now, another nightmarish reality has begun to unfold in Afghanistan, wiping out the progress Afghan women had made for their rights.

“Afghan women are sinking into an abyss,” my mother told me soon after the American troops pulled out last August. It felt as if someone stabbed my heart. My soul ached. “Any sign of women in public is removed. How can we teach young boys to respect women when on the street they see pictures of women torn down and see women beaten? Why does the tragedy of Afghanistan and of Afghan women have no end?” She cried as she spoke.

Since then, darkness has engulfed Afghanistan. My mind never stops thinking of my mother and all the women and girls trapped in the country, once again forced to hide their existence. A new decree has been issued that, unless accompanied by a male relative, women are in effect not permitted to travel by vehicle more than 45 miles (70km) from their homes. Female friends tell me that with no school and no future to look forward to, life has been reduced to waiting for death.

As a new veil descends over Afghan women’s rights, and women in all parts of the country are forced to stay behind closed doors, I feel the same suffocation I did as a teenager beneath the thick, scratchy fabric of the dark burqa. It feels as if the whole of Afghanistan wears that heavy burqa which I hated so much, and that, underneath it, all Afghan women are choking.

Men vänta bara.

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban’s reinstatement of the Ministry for Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice — which was abolished following the US occupation — sent a collective shudder through many Afghans, who remembered it for its strict interpretation of Islamic law.

“The main purpose is to serve Islam. Therefore, it is compulsory to have Ministry of Vice and Virtue,” Mohammad Yousuf, who says he is around 32 years old and responsible for the “central zone” of Afghanistan, tells me from inside his Kabul office on Monday. “We will punish as per the Islamic rules. Whatever Islam guides us, we will punish accordingly.”

Actions will be taken on the “major sins of Islam,” such as sexual intercourse outside marriage, killing someone, and theft, he said.

“Islam has its rules for major sins. For example, killing someone has different rules. If you do it intentionally, if you know the person and intentionally kill the person, you will be killed back. If not intentional, then there might be another punishment like paying a certain amount of money,” Yousuf continues. “If there is a theft, the hand will be cut off. If there is illegal intercourse, they (violators) will be stoned.”

He claimed that both the male and female miscreants would be executed in the draconian manner, although stoning has previously been the group’s mode of punishment for women. Yousuf says four witnesses are required, and those witnesses “should all have the same story.”

Throughout the Taliban’s last reign, from 1996 to 2001, the ministry enforced stringent restrictions on women. They were forced to wear the burqa, never leave their home without a male relative, and banned from education beyond the sixth grade.

In addition, the ministry brutally imposed prayer times and mandated that men grow beards. It prohibited music, smoking and other forms of entertainment, including chess, dancing and kite-flying. Bands of “morality police” were deployed to the streets, and violators were met with harsh punishments ranging from flogging and amputations to stoning and public executions.

However, he also insists that the feared ministry will be “different to last time,” asserting that in the previous regime, there were not many Islamic scholars determining the rules, and this time, all regulations will be determined by scholars once the new government is fully formed.

“Last time, we were using force to implement Islam and the rules, but this time it’s not the same. We will be guiding people; we will be helping them understand what is good and what is bad,” he claims. “We may use force, but first, we will go with open hearts. But in the case they (Afghans) continuously do the same (violations), we will be using the force.”

Yousuf says there will likely be “morality police” once again, but there “will be less.” As for women’s dress and whether they can receive a complete education and work, those issues will be determined soon.

Furthermore, he pledges that school curriculums will remain as they are for now. Still, any subjects that “go against the teachings of Islam” — such as those preaching other religions like Christianity — will be removed.

Yousuf himself hails from Baghlan province and says he went to regular school through the ninth grade. After that, he underwent Islamic studies for 13 years and went on to “preach the knowledge of Islam” for the past decade, but vows that he has never undergone military training and never fired a bullet.

“We just want a peaceful country with Islamic rules and regulations,” he said. “Peace and Islamic rulings are the only wishes we have.”

Yousuf also points out that the revived Vice and Virtue Ministry, now led by Mohamad Khalid, will likely move to the building housing the Ministry of Interior, which is helmed by Sirajuddin Haqqani, on whose head the US government has placed a $5 million bounty.

Meanwhile, the induction for the newly appointed cabinet inside the associated Ministry of the Hajj and Religious Affairs took place last Thursday, the morning after the new interim government was announced.

Being a woman, I was not permitted to join my photographer Jake inside the induction ceremony — which was filled to the brim with passionate sermons and dozens of devout religious elders and revered individuals, including Abdul Hakim Haqqani, a member of Afghanistan’s leadership committee.

Noor Mohammad Saqib, the minister of hajj and religious affairs, led the ceremony inside a packed room with overtures about the freedom and independence of Afghanistan, the implementation of Islamic rules and regulation, and the construction and development of the beleaguered nation. Saqib, 57, was born in the province of Samangan and underwent Islamic studies both inside and outside the country. He says he has been a Taliban member for 26 years.

Instead, a young Taliban in long, flowing robes brings me water and a cracked leather chair to sit on alone in the shade and across from the flapping Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan flags, their rifles always a few feet away. After some time, another Taliban member in a baby blue Afghan dress guides me to a circular room with cushions and sunshine peeking through the curtain gaps as the sounds of ceremony gain momentum close by.

While the leadership did not want to be seen speaking to a woman in front of their devotees, Hafiz Habib, deputy minister of the hajj and religious affairs, agrees to an interview in a private room, where he sits close by and never glances in my direction.

Nonetheless, he speaks softly and welcomes me as a guest in his country. According to Habib, the punishments in the new era will be determined by Islamic attorneys.

“The Justice Department will be responsible, we will have judges, and they will make a decision,” he says, adding that they do not yet have full knowledge of what the legal code will entail.

He also assures me — somewhat vaguely — that Islam permits “full rights” to women.

“Women can go to the office, everything if they have a job. And a woman can wear whatever she likes,” Habib says, adding that a burqa was no longer necessary and that a hijab — headscarf — would suffice. “They should go to education.”

He also declares that school curriculums will continue to feature subjects such as science and math and that they will “add Islamic subjects.” Only the final ruling for all things — including women’s affairs — has yet to be handed down.

Habib also notes that the ministry will call upon a “jirga” — an assemblage of Islamic leaders to make decisions as per the instruction of Pashtunwali — to develop a final “document.” He claims women will be included in the meeting only if they have “achieved the highest level of Islamic knowledge” and that they “should be a full scholar of Islam.”

Nonetheless, critics contend that the binding religious codes within the group have rendered it all but impossible for women to reach the top echelons. This justification will potentially be used to explain why no female faces are seated at the table.

Habib also echoes the sentiment of much of the Taliban top brass in recent days, that they have “implemented a general amnesty” and that members are forbidden to harm or seek revenge upon any Afghans. He vows that any Taliban found disobeying orders will be met with “full punishment.”

“One of the best features of Islamic law is that everything is equal,” he continues. “People can go to a place and submit their complaints, and they will be taken care of. Every location has a leader who is responsible for everything.”

Despite earlier proclamations that the new Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan would be diverse and inclusive, it included only Taliban hardliners and no women or ethnic minorities. And the Ministry of Women’s Affairs has seemingly been disbanded.

Alltfler statliga
och kommunala tjänstemän uppträder
helt öppet i islamistiska munderingar.
Londons borgmästare är aktiv muslim
med anknytning till islamistiska
organisationer.
Även den formellt borgerliga regeringen
kryper alltoftare inför Muslimska Brödra-
skapets mediakampanjer. Utländska

Stadsdelen Tower Hamlets var
länge islamisternas försöksområde
där de ostörda tilläts driva homofoba
och antisemitiska kampanjer.
Numera kan de praktisera det samma
i stor skala över hela London….
Det enda som blivit ett totalt fiasko
med islamiska banker och fonder...

Med start på 90-talet har islamistisk
terrorism visat sig vara den verkliga
tillväxtbranschen i Storbritannien.

Samtiden skriver i veckan:

I kyrkan
lagteknisk öppning i det brittiska systemet, The British
Arbitration Act och systemet med en Alternative
Dispute Resolution.

Snart förbjudet i Österrike

Österrike överväger ett totalförbud mot Rabia, den
fyrfingrade symbolen för Muslimska Brödraskapet.
Symbolen som populariserades av president Erdogan
i Turkiet symboliserar ett stöd för Brödraskapets
islamism och kampanj för sharia som lagstiftning
över hela världen...

IPT News berättar mera:
The Austrian government is considering outlawing a
four-fingered salute representing support for the Muslim
Brotherhood. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
popularized it and began using it after Egypt's military
toppled the Brotherhood in 2013.

Muslim Brotherhood members and sympathizers around
the world use the image on websites, posters and literature.
If the ban is approved, anyone in Austria who flashes the
salute could be fined $4,600.

Erdogan's role in popularizing the gesture seems to be
driving the Austrian ban. It also would outlaw a wolf-head
like salute used by the pro-Erdogan Turkish fascist group
the Grey Wolves. Its most infamous member, Mehmet Ali
Agca, tried to assassinate Pope John Paul II in 1981.
The Wolves have become some of Erdogan's greatest
non-Islamist supporters and aim to unify all Turkic
peoples in Turkey across and throughout Central Asia
into a single nation.

Relations between Austria and Turkey have become tense
due to reports that Erdogan's intelligence agency, the MIT,
spied on Erdogan's enemies in Austria. In February 2017, a
member of Austria's Green Party alleged that an umbrella
organization headed by the Turkish embassy's religious
attaché had carried out spy operations in Austrian mosques.
Turkey was inserting "unacceptable Turkish government
politics in Austria," said Green Party member Peter Pilz.

Austria closed seven Turkish-linked mosques in June due
to concerns over political Islam. Chancellor Sebastian
Kurz complained about "parallel societies, political Islam
and radicalisation."
The Turks responded by accusing the Austrians of racism.

The imams were paid by Turkey's Directorate of Religious
Affairs, also called the Diyanet. It has a close relationship
with Turkey's MIT intelligence agency.

Religion of Peace summerat vad denna
"muslimska glädjefest" kostade
mänskligheten 2018:

Resultatet blev 854 mördade
vid 182 terrordåd.
Religiösa fanatiker från andra religioner
har under samma tid mördat EN person.
Det var en hindunationalist i Indien.
Kristna: 0 mord
Judar: 0 mord

Ja, det var vad "Fredens religion" lyckades
ställa till med på EN månad.
Varför ?
Ja, titta i den onde profetens koran
så inser du varför.

Bloggen Apg29.nu ger några exempel:

Koranen 9:29

Slå dem då i bojor.

Robert Spencers
The Complete Infidel's Guide to the Koran
går systematiskt igenom boken.

Observera att den enda korrekta
svenska översättningen
fortfarande är
K V Zettersteens klassiska version.
Däremot finns det ett antal bearbetningar,
i regel skrivna av konvertiter, där allt
"våldsamt" censurerats bort.

Ny-stalinismens tid

Rättegång i Stockholms Tingsrätt 19 juni.

Judges have real and huge power. Unlike heads of states and parliamentarians, they are not elected by anyone, which provides a solid ground for manipulation. Poland, which decided to limit judicial power, is being punished by the EU.

A. Maistrovoy

In late December, the European Commission announced punitive measures against Poland using the so-called “nuclear option”, Article 7 of the Lisbon Treaty. The reason was the decision of Warsaw to limit the power of judges. The EU considered this an infringement on "freedom, democracy and the rule of law".

In fact, the "nuclear option" of the EU has no relation to freedom, democracy, or the rule of law. Its goal is to establish a totalitarian supranational system in Poland, the leading country of the Visegrad Fronde, in order to supersede democratic national institutions of power.

The judicial system in a democratic state should guard rights of citizens. Together with the executive and legislative powers, it must guarantee "the enjoyment of life and liberty" of free citizens (The Virginia Declaration of Rights of 1776), or according to Jeremy Bentham, the founder of British utilitarianism, ensure "the greatest happiness of the greatest number".

The problem is that judges have real and huge power. However unlike heads of states, governments and parliamentarians, they are not elected by anyone, which provides a solid ground for manipulation.

Today, the judicial system has turned into a disgusting parody of itself; supported by politicians, Academia, media and NGOs, it is now a powerful lever used by prominent people to promote the ideology of political correctness and multiculturalism.

The goal of this ideology is ethnic and cultural substitution and, as a consequence, Islamization. It is not actively displayed, although it is not concealed.

In 2001, the former French Interior Minister Jean-Pierre Chevenement called for integration of 75 million migrants from Africa and Asia within 50 years.

In July 2008, the Chief Justice of England and Wales Lord Phillips declared that it was inevitable to recognize Sharia courts in Great Britain.

In September 2015, at the peak of the crisis with migrants, the journalist Ralf Schuler ("Bild") reported the EU was planning to receive additional 5 million refugees from Asia and Africa.

In September 2017, the EU financed the exhibition in Brussels called "Islam, It's Also Our History!". According to Isabelle Benoit, a historian from the Tempora organization, “We want to make it clear to Europeans that Islam is a part of our civilization”.

On February 22, President of France Emmanuel Macron said: “French culture does not exist. There is a culture in France and it is diverse… French art? I have never seen it!”.
According to Finance Minister of Germany Wolfgang Schäuble, Germans need to learn humanistic values of Islam, and Islam is “a constituent part of Germany”.

This aim is realized in three stages.

Stage one - corruption of society, impo‎sition of barbarous archaic customs, destruction of the national culture, eradication of Judeo-Christian values.

Stage two - support of Islamic occupation and migrant violence, legalization of the Sharia.

Stage three - suppression of dissent at all levels.

It is obvious that a healthy and cohesive society would resist turning it into slavery. Therefore it is necessary to undermine its foundations, to swap values: virtue should be presented as evil, barbarity - as cultural originality, abnormality - as the norm. Courts are the main leverage in this game. Below are some of the examples of this phenomenon.

In February 2007, a German court released the former member of The Red Army Faction (RAF) Brigitte Mohnhaupt, who had murdered 9 people in 1970s. She didn’t express any regret for her crimes.

In July 2017, The National Health Service (NHS) reported 5391 cases of female genital mutilations. Although this disgusting procedure was banned in the UK in 1985, not a single person was convicted.

This is only a marginal part of thousands of similar verdicts, which under the guise of humanism and human rights impose chaos and all kinds of perversions.

On the other hand, Christian values are also being consistently destroyed.

When the foundation of the society is undermined, the second stage of destruction begins.

In the Rule of Law, laws should be applied to all citizens - otherwise the very idea of democracy and justice loses its meaning.
Today, parallel Sharia law legally operates in Western Europe. The so called Laws of the Jungle reign in "black holes" of "no-go-zones", and courts condone lawlessness and savagery.

During the period of 1999 to 2001, two teenage girls from Fontenay-sous-Bois (outside Paris) were gang-raped by 14 Muslim teenagers. Ten of the rapists were acquitted, two persons were sentenced to only one year in prison, one person was sentenced to six months in prison, and the last one out of 14 was charged with a suspended sentence.

In January 2006, a French Jew, Ilan Halimi, was kidnapped by a gang calling themselves "Barbarians,” headed by Yusuf Fofana. They tortured him, doused with gasoline and burned alive. 24 members of the gang were sentenced to terms between 6 months to 18 years only. Two "Barbarians" were freed.
In May 2016, at the school of Lund (Sweden) a Muslim migrant teen raped a 14-year-old girl. The girl was transferred, but the rapist remained at the same school. He was only punished with 100 hours of detention.
In October 2016, the Gothenburg District Court sentenced a migrant Abdul to 10 months of youth care (only!) for raping of a 14-year-old girl, but Supreme Court of Western Sweden abrogated Abdul because he suffered from ADHD syndrome and "didn’t understand no”.
In July 2017, Malmö District Court sentenced a 19-year-old Afghan Muslim migrant to one month in prison for raping of a 13-year-old boy. And so on.

According to official statistics, only every fifth migrant rapist in Sweden (and only 13 percent of migrant pedophiles) are deported to their home countries - Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia or Iraq.

This is not characteristic of Sweden in particularly. In December 2016 in Vienna, 20-year-old Amir from Iraq raped a 10-year-old boy in a toilet of a swimming pool. The District Court sentenced him to six years, but the Austrian Supreme Court overturned it "for lack of evidence."

Pakistani members of Rochdale child sex abuse ring (with the exception of their leader Shabir Ahmed) were sentenced to ridiculous terms from 4 to 9 years.
In 2014, a 40-year-old preacher Suleman Maknojioa was accused of harassing an 11-year-old girl. He was sentenced to 40 weeks' imprisonment only, but did not stay in prison a single day as he was the only breadwinner.
In Germany in January 2017, a 47-year-old Syrian migrant was sentenced to one year and 9 months of imprisonment only for raping a mentally disabled woman – “because when he is drunk, he is unpredictable”. By that time he committed 23 various offenses, including assault, robbery and fare evasion.

There are hundreds of similar examples…

In June this year, three underage Muslim migrants severely raped a 5-year-old girl in Idaho. In the court room their lawyers advocated that the so called “boys” were decent and trustworthy and they suffered from Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD).
In April 2012, for the sake of "Freedom of ex‎pression" the Spanish Supreme Court freed 9 Islamists who were planning terrorist attacks in the name of "liberation of Spain".

The Western legal system openly sabotages decisions of the executive and legislative branches of power.

The best evidence of this is courts blocking Trump’s ban on the reception of migrants from Middle East. This has nothing to do with humanism, since those who need help most of all, are deprived of it. It’s not only about Christians and Yazidis.

In Israel, the High Court of Justice deliberately replaces the executive branch: it prevents destruction of houses of terrorists and deportation of terrorists, cooperates with left NGO to demolish Jewish houses, and blocks deportation of illegal African migrants to third countries.

EU laws literally ensure safety for terrorists. Imam Abdelbaki Es Satty, who organized a terrorist attack in Barcelona, was brought to trial on drug business charges in 2014, but Judge Pablo de la Rubia dismissed his deportation, as it was deemed a violation of EU laws.

In August 2012, two Al-Qaeda terrorists, one of whom plotted to kill thousands of people in a bomb attack in a British shopping center, applied to the European Court of Human Rights against MI5. Officials at the European Court allowed their application to go ahead.

The European Court of Human Rights and the British Court of Appeal didn’t deport Abu Qatad, Palestinian Al-Qaeda activist, to the Hashemite Kingdom for 10 years because of “humanitarian considerations.”

The third stage is elimination of dissenters of any age and social status.

Stalin asserted that repression should be based on laws, and indeed Stalin’s terror was based on the progressive Stalinist Constitution of 1936. The legislation of Western countries, which is quite liberal, opens limitless possibilities for justice.

The French pioneered the path to Muslim colonization. The starting point on the way to ethnic and cultural substitution, according to Eric Zemmur, was the Pleven law on racism (1972), which was then supplemented with even more radical laws.

Germany went even further by deciding to set censorship - fines of up to $56,000,000 for "hate speech" in order to protect freedom of speech, according ex-Justice Minister Heiko Maas.

The last major and successful case was the deprivation of the parliamentary immunity of Marin Le Pen by the French prosecutor's office after she published images of ISIS atrocities in Twitter.

The Swedish prosecutor's office accused Peter Springare, a police officer from Orebro, of spreading hatred and racism. All he did was listing police reports compiled in one week and naming criminals and countries of their origin.
Aboriginals are defenseless in the face of their colonial barbarians, because the judicial system sides with the latter always and everywhere.

A mere suspicion of Islamophobia can cause fatal consequences.

In 2016, 35-year-old Kevin Crehan made a joke by leaving a half-eaten sandwich with bacon on the doorstep of a mosque in Bristol. He was accused of racist attack, sentenced to one year in prison and died there under strange circumstances.

Any doubt on the purity of Islam is ruthlessly punished. In August 2017, the German journalist Michael Stürzenberger was sentenced to a half-year in prison after posting of a photo on Facebook where a ranking Nazi was shaking hands with Amin al-Husseini - the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem.
No totalitarian system is ready to tolerate heretics within its realm. That’s why it hates Trump so much. That’s why it strives to undermine Israel, defames Victor Orban and seeks to bring Poland to its knees – because of its striving for sovereignty and national democracy.
