Over 30 rockets launched at Israel in largest attack from Lebanon since 2006 — major escalation

Largest rocket barrage in years as Israel celebrates Passover

Air raid sirens sounded across northern Israel late Thursday afternoon ­– the first day of Passover ­– as Israel Defense Forces reported that 34 rockets were fired into Israel from Lebanon, with 25 of them being intercepted by Iron Dome air defense systems.

Five rockets allegedly landed in Israeli territory causing damage, and at least one person was injured from shrapnel, according to local media sites. The IDF has not yet released all the data regarding the other rockets, while videos on social media showed footage of the Iron Dome interceptions.

As a result of the barrage of rocket attacks, a number of fires broke out in the northern region and Israel Fire and Rescue services are reportedly working to extinguish them. 

The airspace in northern Israel is currently closed to all civilian flights until the situation is under control. 

The last significant rocket attack on Israel from Lebanon was in 2021, when Hezbollah fired 19 rockets into Israel's northern region. The last major rocket barrage was during the second Lebanon war in 2006. 

The rocket attacks come just one day after rockets were launched at Israel’s southern border by terror groups in the Gaza Strip, reportedly in response to clashes between Israel Police and Palestinians at Al Aqsa Mosque Tuesday night. Since that incident, Israeli security forces have been concerned about an escalation of violence.

The Israeli Air Force also struck several sites in Gaza on Wednesday in response to the rockets fired from the Strip early yesterday morning. 

No group has claimed responsibility as of this report, but Hezbollah in Lebanon indicated yesterday that it was willing to take part with Palestinian terror groups in the conflict against Israel.

There were scattered reports in Lebanese social media claiming today's attacks were in retaliatory response to the killing of two Hezbollah members by Israeli air strikes in Syria earlier this week. 

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is meeting with senior defense officials to coordinate response.

The Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday launched an operation to
destroy a number of cross-border attack tunnels that it says were
dug by the Iran-backed Hezbollah group into northern Israel
from Lebanon.

Announcing the launch of Operation Northern Shield, IDF spokes-
person Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus said “a number of tunnels”
had penetrated Israeli territory and forces were working on the
Israeli side of the frontier to destroy them.

"We see Hezbollah’s actions as a flagrant and blatant violation

of Israeli sovereignty,” he said.

      

 
               

The military said it believed these tunnels were for
offensive purposes, unlike the tunnels and underground
bunkers used by Hezbollah during the 2006 Second
Lebanon War, which were primarily used for its 
 defensive strategies.
Conricus said the tunnels “are not yet operationally ready”
and therefore did not pose an “immediate threat.”

The operation came as tensions on Israel’s northern border
have ramped up in recent days, and hours after
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traveled to Brussels
for a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
to discuss Iran and security challenges on Israel’s
northern  border, likely referring to Hezbollah.

Israeli security chiefs were holding security assessments
throughout the day on Tuesday in order to predict Hezbollah’s
reaction to the IDF operation.

The Israeli military’s Arabic-language spokesperson called
on Hezbollah members and Lebanese citizens to keep away
from the tunnels. “You’ve been warned,” he wrote on Twitter.

Israel has long said that Hezbollah planned to conduct cross-
border raids in any future conflict, with the specific goal
of attacking and conquering a civilian town near the
border. Northern residents have raised fears in recent
years of attack tunnels being dug under the border, spurring
the IDF to launch a task force to investigate the concerns
in 2014.

“[Hezbollah’s] main goal is to kill as many people as they can
in [Israeli] villages and army bases,” a senior officer IDF
officer said earlier this year, in a briefing to reporters on
the Lebanese border.

Man övar särskilt strid i bebyggelse och i ökenområden 

liksom snabba insatser med helikoptrar.

Efterhand som Iran drar tillbaka allt större
Hizballahstyrkor från Syrien ökan spänningen
i gränsområdet Israel-Libanon.

I praktiken kontrollerar Hizballah den libanesiska
regeringen och trappar för varje månad upp retoriken
mot Israel. IDF tycks nu förbereda sig på ett angrepp
i norr.
Det blir en välbeväpnad och stridsvan motståndare
Israel har att möta.

Svensk-libanesiska Amanda Hanna valdes häromveckan till Miss Lebanon Emigrant.
Det är en årlig tävling mellan flickor med libanesiskt ursprung över hela världen. 
Men lyckan blev kortvarig för Amanda. Den Hizballahkontrollerade libanesiska
regeringen ingrep och avsatte henne. Libanesiska säkerhetstjänsten hade upptäckt att hon begått ett svårt brott: Amanda Hanna besökte Israel 2016 och skrev dessutom om sina positiva erfarenheter därifrån....
Det blev för mycket för den antisemitiska regeringen i Beirut.
Och ett memento för alla som tror att Libanon är en "moderat" muslimsk stat....

Men det är inte den första libanesiska skönhetsdrottningen som hamnar i politiskt blåsväder.
Miss Libanon 2015 avsattes sedan hon låtit sig fotograferas tillsammans med sin israeliska kollega.

Nyhetsbyrån JTA berättar:

A Swedish-Lebanese beauty queen was stripped of her crown after pageant organizers discovered she visited Israel last year, the London-based Independent reported Wednesday.

 

Amanda Hanna won Miss Lebanon Emigrant 2017 earlier in August, but a 2016 school trip to Israel on her Swedish passport has cost her the title.

        

“After communicating our decision with Lebanon’s Minister of Tourism, he decided that Hanna should be stripped of her title because her visit to Israel violates our country’s laws,” said a statement from The Festival of Lebanese Emigrants in Dhour Al Choueir.

 

In Lebanon, any contact with Israelis is considered illegal and violators risk jail time.

 

Following her trip to Israel, Hanna wrote on Facebook, “it turned out that I was wrong,” referring to her previous assumptions about the Jewish state.

“I’ve gotten to know people who have come to stand close to me & I have developed in particular as a person. It has been a wonderful trip & I am incredibly happy that I participated,” she said.

 

This wasn’t the first time a Lebanese pageant contestant found herself into trouble due to Israeli connections.

In January 2015, Miss Lebanon nearly lost her crown after she was photographed with Miss Israel. Sally Greige was to be investigated for appearing in a photo with Israeli representative to the Miss World beauty pageant, Doron Matalon, who uploaded the image to her Instagram account. Greige later defended herself, accusing Matalon of forcing her way into the photo at the last minute, and without her consent.

Matalon insisted the joint photo was genuine and was saddened that Greige was under fire at home.

Expressen kan i dag avslöja att Ihab Hallak, 50,

från Spånga har erkänt att han samlat in cirka 870 000 kronor

i Stockholms Stora Moské, som Muslimska Brödraskapet bedriver
på Medborgarplatsen,  och slussat pengarna till al-Qaeda-anslutna terrororganisationen al-Nusrafronten i Syrien.

 

Ihab Hallak, 50, och hans svärson greps i juni 2014

av den libanesiska underrättelsetjänsten.

Båda misstänks för delaktighet i en rad terroristbrott,

bland annat ett antal bilbomber som smugglats från

Syrien till Libanon 2013-2014.

 

I en razzia hemma hos 50-åringen i Khaldeh söder

om Beirut hittade underrättelsetjänsten två automat-

karbiner av typen Kalasjnikov, en pistol av märket Beretta,

samt en mängd ammunition och handgranater.

Ihab Hallak valde för fyra år sedan att ta sina barn

med sig och flytta tillbaka till hemlandet Libanon,

som han hade flytt 1984.

 

Han tycks dock fortfarande bedriva en omfattande affärs-

verksamhet i Sverige, där han bl a äger flera bolag...

Från Libanon flyttade han snabbt vidare till al-Qalamoun

i Syrien, där en av hans döttrar gifte sig med en man

som innehade en officiell position inom terrorgruppen

al-Nusra, som är Al-Qaedas franchisetagare i Syrien.

 

I de inledande förhören erkände 50-åringen att han

tillhörde terrorgruppen al-Nusrafronten, och att han

deltog i striderna i al-Qalamoun och skadades i strid

 under 2014.

En läkarundersökning bekräftade också att mannen

drabbats av flera skottskador.

 

I senare domstolsförhör tog han delvis tillbaka sina

uppgifter, men erkände koppling till al-Nusra och stöd

till terrororganisationen i form av bistånd och pengar.

Hallak, uppger att han tidvis arbetat för hjälp-

organisationen Islamic Relief i Sverige.

Islamic Relief opererar med insamlingar över

hela Sverige och anses nära kopplat till Muslimska

Brödraskapet.

 

Ihab Hallak släpptes på fri fot i tisdags tillsammans

med tolv andra terrormisstänkta al-Nusraanhängare.

Det skedde vid en fångutväxling där al-Nusrafronten

i gengäld släppte 16 kidnappade libanesiska soldater.

Hallak och svärsonen misstänks för delaktighet i en rad
terroristbrott.

50-åringen erkänner samarbete med rad kända
terrorister, men nekar till brott...

Hizballahagent från Malmö fick 18 mån fängelse

 

 

Den libanesiske Hizballahagenten Hassan Hizran, bosatt

i Malmö, dömdes i Israel på söndagen till 18 månaders

fängelse för spionage.

Hizran fick ett så kort straff sedan han erkänt sitt brott

och samarbetat med säkerhetstjänsten Shin Bet för att

nysta upp Hizballahs subversiva verksamhet i

bl a Malmö.

 

I Malmö har han varit ansvarig för den islamistiska

shiagruppen Libanesiska Huset, som bl a arrangerat

Al Qudsdagen, den årliga antisemitiska hatdagen,

på Malmös gator tillsammans med Irans ambassad. 

Han har också haft i uppgift att rekrytera andra araber

i Malmö för spionage- och terroruppdrag åt Hezballah.

Hizran greps på Ben Gurionflygplatsen och har också

erkänt att han utfört spionuppdrag i Israel, där han
bl a samlat in uppgifter om IDF:s baser.

Det är inte första gången Hizballah använder
araber med skandinaviska pass för spionage
eller terrorism. Oftast aktioner tillsammans
med Irans revolutionsgarde.

Jerusalem Post berättar:

The Lod District Court on Sunday sentenced a Swedish-Lebanese national in a plea bargain deal to 18 months in prison for involvement in espionage against Israel on behalf of Hezbollah.

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) said Hassan Hizran, born in 1969 and arrested at Ben-Gurion Airport in July, had admitted to being recruited by Hezbollah, and also provided an account of how he was recruited and cooperated with the Lebanese Shi’ite terrorist organization.

Hizran had arrived in Israel to gather intelligence on sensitive targets for Hezbollah, security officials said.

He received a light sentence for cooperating with the authorities, and due to the state’s concerns about revealing aspects of the country’s intelligence apparatus if the case had gone to trial.

The state attorney said Hizran would have otherwise faced a maximum 30 month prison term.

The court said Hizran had not aggressively sought to be a spy, and that he had met his Hezbollah handler under threat.

Hizran also avoided procuring information Hezbollah had asked him for which “reduced the security damage that he caused,” the court wrote in its ruling.

He also had no prior record.

Hizran’s lawyer said his client’s involvement with Hezbollah was “very low and with reservations” about spying and that “he did not yet understand what he had agreed to.”

Officials said that Hizran had traveled to Lebanon with his wife and children in 2009, where he accepted an offer to meet with Hezbollah operatives who told him they wished to recruit Palestinians in Europe who have foreign passports to gather intelligence in Israel for Hezbollah.

Hizran returned to Lebanon in 2011 and 2013, also meeting with Hezbollah and accepting missions to try and recruit Israeli citizens with ties to Jews or Israeli military personnel, or with Israeli government officials.

“Additionally, he was asked to gather information on locations in Israel where there are concentrations of military forces, weapons, tanks and military bases,” the Shin Bet said.

Hizran was ordered to investigate how Israeli security at Ben-Gurion Airport operates, including the reception of passengers, security arrangements and passport control procedures.

In 2009, he received $2,300 for his meetings with Hezbollah and an additional $800 in 2011.

“Hizran’s activities prove the attractiveness to Hezbollah of activating foreign citizens who have access to Lebanon and Israel, out of an assumption that they can travel in Israel freely,” the Shin Bet said.

Apparently during questioning, Hizran gave the Shin Bet information about an association in the Swedish city of Malmö called the Lebanese House, whose Shi’ite members carry out social and cultural work within their communities.

“They hold Hezbollah-related days, watch speeches by Hezbollah head Hassan Nasrallah and more,” the Shin Bet said

nya attacker mot Israel. Denna gången från

Syrien.

Samir Kuntar är en libanesisk

drus, som tillhörde den lilla

terrorgruppen PLF, där huvud-

delen senare anslöt sig till marxistiska

PFLP. Den 22 april 1979 genom-

förde han en terroraktion i Nahariya

i norra Israel. Där mördade han Danny

Haran och hans små döttrar. Vi låter

änkan Smadar berätta:

"It had been a peaceful Sabbath day.

My husband, Danny, and I had picnicked

with our little girls, Einat, 4, and Yael, 2,

on the beach not far from our home in

Nahariya, a city on the northern coast of

Israel, about six miles south of the Lebanese

border. Around midnight, we were asleep in

our apartment when four terrorists, sent by

Abu Abbas from Lebanon, landed in a rubber

boat on the beach two blocks away. Gunfire

and exploding grenades awakened us as the

terrorists burst into our building. They had

already killed a police officer. As they charged

up to the floor above ours, I opened the door

to our apartment. In the moment before the

hall light went off, they turned and saw me.

As they moved on, our neighbor from the

upper floor came running down the stairs.

I grabbed her and pushed her inside our

apartment and slammed the door.

Outside, we could hear the men storming

about. Desperately, we sought to hide.

Danny helped our neighbor climb into a

crawl space above our bedroom; I went

in behind her with Yael in my arms.

Then Danny grabbed Einat and was

dashing out the front door to take refuge

in an underground shelter when the

terrorists came crashing into our flat.

They held Danny and Einat while they

searched for me and Yael, knowing there

were more people in the apartment. I will

never forget the joy and the hatred in their

voices as they swaggered about hunting for

us, firing their guns and throwing grenades.

I knew that if Yael cried out, the terrorists

would toss a grenade into the crawl space

and we would be killed. So I kept my hand

over her mouth, hoping she could breathe.

As I lay there, I remembered my mother

telling me how she had hidden from the

Nazis during the Holocaust.

"This is just like what happened to my

mother," I thought.

As police began to arrive, the terrorists

took Danny and Einat down to the beach.

There, according to eyewitnesses, one of

them shot Danny in front of Einat so that

his death would be the last sight she would

ever see.

Then he smashed my little girl's skull in

against a rock with his rifle butt.

That terrorist was Samir Kuntar.
By the time we were rescued from

the crawl space, hours later, Yael, too,

was dead. In trying to save all our lives,

I had smothered her."

Nu kommer den tråkiga nyheten att

monstret är i farten igen.

Kuntar frigavs tyvärr vid en fångutväxling

2008 och slapp avtjäna sina välförtjänta

fyra gånger livstid.

Han hyllades av islamisterna i Libanon 
 som en en stor judemördare och
nationalhjälte och fick en hög ställning
 i Hezballah.

Och nu är han snart i farten igen...

Samir Kuntar is organizing a Hezbollah terror
cell on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights,
according to Druze citizens on the Israeli
side of the Golan Heights.
The Druze community warned that once the Rebels
 control the Syrian side of the Golan, Kuntar is planning
to infiltrate his Hezbollah terrorists into Israel.
The Druze community told this to HaBayit HaYehudi
representatives, including Ayelet Shaked, who met with
them at the beginning of the week, according to a
  BaSheva report.
They said the source of the information is from their
Druze relatives living on the Syrian side of the Golan.

The Quds Force is attempting to strike

official Israeli state symbols,

such as embassies and ambassadors,

while Hizballah's agents are moving against

soft targets, such as Israeli tourists hubs.

The Quds Force and Hizballah are in the midst

of a secret but very real effort to carry out atro-

cities around the world.

Israeli intelligence services are working around

the clock to thwart them. Dozens of attacks have

been intercepted by Israel in 2012 alone.

One attack, a Hizballah bombing of an Israeli

tourist bus in Bulgaria, succeeded in 2012, killing

six people and wounding dozens."

Han greps i juli på Cypern och står sedan

flera månader inför rätta. Först nu har han

erkänt att han tillhör Hizballah och var på

Cypern för att rekognocera inför "aktioner"

mot israeliska mål, bl a El Al:s ankomster

och vilka hotell det bor israeliska turister

på...

Under 2012 försökte iranska revolutions-

gardet Pasdaran genomföra ett tjugotal

terrordåd mot i huvudsak israeliska mål.

Oftast var det iranskfinansierade Hizballah

som skulle utföra dåden.

Hossam Taleb Yaacoub, som reser på

svenskt pass, har utfört liknande uppdrag

tidigare i Frankrike, Nederländerna och

Turkiet.

Domen förväntas avkunnas i mars.

NYT:
"Mr. Yaacoub’s testimony offered unaccustomed insights
from an active Hezbollah member into the militant group’s
secret operations. But it carried potentially greater significance
for the European Union, which has thus far resisted following
Washington’s lead in declaring the group a terrorist organization.
Experts say that a conviction here would substantially raise
the pressure on the bloc for such a designation.

“Foreign ministries around Europe are watching this quite closely

because many Europeans, particularly the Germans,

have laid such a stress on courtroom evidence being the basis

for a designation,” said Daniel Benjamin, until December the top

counterterrorism official at the State Department, who visited

Cyprus last year after the arrest.

Security experts also suspect that Mr. Yaacoub was playing a small

but potentially deadly role in a much broader shadow war that has

produced what some Israeli and American intelligence officials say

were nearly a dozen plots by Iran and Hezbollah against Israel

and its allies abroad."

Terroristgruppen Hizballahs ekonomichef

Hussein Fahs har hoppat av till Israel med

med kartor, delar av ett hemligt arkiv och

en större penningsumma.

Redan i somras beskylldes Fahs och några

medhjälpare för att ha förskingrat 5 miljoner

$ av det iranska bidraget till terroristerna.

Medan utredningen pågick fick alla inblandade

reseförbud.

Fahs förtroende för Libanons rättsväsen var

dock inte så stort, så han packade sin ryggsäck

och gick till fots över gränsen till Israel.

Fahs är en shia från södra Libanon, en grupp

som är mycket suspekt i de nya makthavarnas

ögon. De senaste åren har Hizballah låtit fängsla

över 100 kristna och shia från sydligaste Libanon

som misstänkta för samarbete med Israel.

En libanesisk Hizballahagent greps

nyligen i Limasol. Mannen hade in-

gående rekognocerat israeliska

flygbolag, hotell och turistgrupper

på ön.

Libanesen uppges resa på ett

svenskt pass.

Cypriotiska polisen har konstaterat

att mannen är medlem i Hizballah

och ledare för en terrorcell som

skulle angripa israeliska mål på

Cypern.

A Lebanese man detained by Cyprus police

 for planning attacks against Israeli tourists

and airlines flying to the island, was planning the

attacks for Hezbollah, according to local

media reports on Saturday.

According to press reports from the newspapers

Sigma Live and Phileitaros, security forces in

Cyprus arrested a Lebanese citizen on the island,

 who is also the holder of a Swedish passport,

after receiving information from a foreign

 intelligence service. The man was in possesion

of photographs of Israeli targets, and information

on Israeli airlines flying back and forth from Cyprus.

Terrororganisationen Hizballah har

fått fem av sina ledare, i praktiken

hela sin generalstab, kidnappad i

Syrien.

De libanesiska teroristerna hade

besökt sin allierade Bashar Assad

och den syriska militärbasen Al-Hame,

där Hizballah förvarar sina Iran-

levererade Scud D (långdistans-

missiler). 

Trots att basen bara ligger fyra km

utanför Damaskus slog en terror-

grupp från Muslimska Brödraskapet

till mot de libanesiska terroristerna.

är underrättelsechefen Ali Safa,

systerson till Hizballahs ledare

Hassan Nasrallah.

Enligt källor i Beirut spårades de

kidnappades bil via en satellit,

som sedan styrde de syriska terror-

isterna rakt mot målet. Det kan

tyda på samarbete mellan USA

och MB-terroristerna....

Det sekundära målet, som samtidigt

skulle angripas av en andra grupp, 

var restaurangerna längs Khao San

Road, där man kunde döda många

amerikaner och israeler.

Atris greps när han skulle lämna

landet och hävdade först att han

var på semester. Efter tre dagars

förhör bröt han samman och erkände

att han tillhörde en terrorgrupp som

skulle slå till mot "judiska, israeliska

och amerikanska" mål i Thailand.

Över sex ton material till spräng-

ämnen hade lagrats av en annan

grupp i förväg.

Atris bomb var fem gånger så

kraftig som Breiviks bomb i Oslo

och skulle också tillverkas av

konstgödning.
