Hundreds of thousands of Israelis have been ordered to remain in their homes near shelters. The IDF has called up reserves to assist in the military effort.

On Friday afternoon, the IDF opened an attack against the Islamic Jihad terrorist operations based in Gaza.

The assault began with an attack by the Israel Air Force on buildings known to be used by Islamic Jihad.

The IDF confirmed that the head of Islamic Jihad’s military wing in northern Gaza Tisir Jabari has been killed.

The assault comes after a number of days in a row in which the organization made multiple threats to attack targets in Israel.

Images were shown on Israeli news broadcasts of smoke emanating from a number of locations in Gaza said to have been struck by the IAF.

Sirens blared as dozens of rockets were fired at Israeli cities in the south and then towards Holon, Rishon Lezion and Bat Yam in the center of the country. Most of the rockets fired at Israeli population centers were destroyed by Israel’s Iron Dome defense.

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis who live within 50 miles of Gaza have been ordered to remain in their homes within close proximity to bomb shelters. The IDF has called up 25,000 reserves to assist in the military effort.

This attack comes after several days of preparations in which the areas around Gaza were closed off to any non-residents and the IDF announced an increase in its presence in the area.

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid declared that “terrorist organizations will not set the agenda in the area adjacent to Gaza, we will not tolerate any threat against our civilians. I thank Defense Minister Benny Gantz, the IDF and its commanders led by Chief of General Staff, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi, and the ISA led by Ronen Bar, for the quality of their intelligence and for their precise execution,” INN reported.

“At the same time, we won’t accept any ultimatums regarding the operations of the IDF and the security forces – including on other fronts. Everyone who needs to be arrested – will be arrested. Any attempt to harm civilians or soldiers will be met with a harsh response,” said Lapid.

“Today’s activity in Gaza was against concrete threats which disrupted daily routine in southern Israel. Israel isn’t interested in a wider conflict in Gaza, but will not shy away from one either.

Islamic Jihad took credit for a spree of terrorist attacks during the spring that took the lives of numerous innocent Israeli civilians. These attacks included terrorists randomly shooting automatic weapons in the streets of several Israeli cities.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz held a situation assessment at IDF Southern Command HQ just a few hours before the new operation began.

Gantz said that the meeting was held so that the security leadership could, “prepare the actions that will remove the threat on this region, in accordance with the operational considerations of the State of Israel.”

He declared that Israel’s mission is to ensure that the tension ceases and that routine returns.

“To our enemies, and specifically to the leadership of Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad,” said Gantz, “I would like to emphasize: your time is up. The threat [on this region] will be removed one way or another.”

The Defense Minister also blamed the terrorist organizations for holding the people of Gaza hostage.

“The IDF, ISA and all security forces are preparing for any action that may be taken on any front – in Israel’s northern, central or southern regions,” added Gantz. W”e are continuing operational activities in all arenas, as needed.”

Gantz also promised the international community that Israel will operate in a responsible and restrained manner, “from a place of strength. We will operate with internal resilience and external strength in order to restore routine life in Israel’s south.”

“We do not seek conflict, yet we will not hesitate to defend our citizens, if required,” he declared.

“The State of Israel and the IDF will continue its operations, knowing the responsibility we bear on our shoulders – to defend the communities and citizens of Israel’s south. And to defend the citizens of the entire State of Israel.”

Minister Gantz is now at the Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv.

Israel höjer beredskapen mot attacker från Iran

Israel presenterade i veckan en ny fem-årsplan för försvaret med kodnamnet Momentum.

Dess huvudsyfte är att avvärja det iranska hotet mot Israel. Ett hot både från iranska trupper i Syrien och deras islamistiska hjälptrupper Hezballah och Hamas.

Israels strategiska utmaning ligger idag i norra delen av landet, citerades generalstabschefen i medierna.

With Iranian-backed Islamic terror groups threatening the Jewish state on both its southern and northern borders, the IDF released a new plan to confront efforts to attack Israel.

The IDF unveiled its new five-year plan of operations, with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi stressing that Israel’s primary strategic threat remains Iranian entrenchment near its borders and its efforts to develop precision missiles with which to attack the Jewish state.

Kochavi added, “At the heart of [security threats to Israel is] the entrenchment of Iranian and other forces in Syria and the precision missile project. In both situations, this is an Iranian-led effort, using the territory of countries with extremely weak governments,” reported Ynet.

In his comments, Kochavi also referred to activities by both the Hamas terror group in Gaza and the Iranian proxy Hezbollah in Lebanon.

With regard to Lebanon, Kochavi commented that Hezbollah holds the country hostage and dictates its “security policy.”

Key features of the new operational plan, code-named “Momentum,” include massive investments in the IDF’s military capabilities, such as beefing up Israel’s mid-sized drone fleet, acquiring large numbers of precision-guided missiles from the U.S., and obtaining more air defense batteries, reported Times of Israel.

Under the plan, IDF training exercises will shift focus to urban combat, as opposed to open fields, which are the traditional venues for military exercises. These drills will simulate fighting in cities and towns, according to the Times, where the IDF believes future conflicts could take place.

While the plan officially goes into effect at the beginning of 2020, the Finance Ministry had yet to approve expenditures to pay for the costly initiative. The spending required for the Momentum Plan represents a significant increase compared to the IDF’s previous five-year strategy, the Gideon Plan.

The underlying philosophy driving the Momentum Plan is that Israel must decisively gain victory in any future conflict as rapidly as possible to prevent Hezbollah from launching a large-scale strike on the Jewish state.
On a practical level, this means being able to strike targets immediately to take out weapons and military assets that could be used to harm Israelis.

Israeli warplanes on Friday struck some 100 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip after terrorists in Gaza launched rockets on Tel Aviv and Israeli communities in the south.

After striking over 100 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip on Friday, the Israeli army announced its targets had included a Gaza City building used to plan and command Hamas terror activities, an underground complex that served as Hamas’ main rocket-manufacturing site, and a center used for Hamas drone development.

There were no reports of casualties in Gaza.

 

 

The Israeli strikes were part of a retaliatory operation after terrorists in Gaza launched a late-night rocket attack on Tel Aviv, Israel’s densely populated commercial and cultural capital, marking a dramatic escalation in hostilities.

In total, Palestinian terrorists fired two rockets at Tel Aviv and nine rockets at Israeli communities along the Gaza border, with Israel’s Iron Dome intercepting seven of these rockets and the others falling in areas away from civilians. No Israelis were injured in the attacks.

It was the first time Tel Aviv had been targeted since a 2014 war between Israel and the Hamas terror group.

Hamas denied responsibility for the initial rocket attack, saying it went against Palestinian interests. But after a preliminary investigation, Israel said it had concluded that the militant group was behind the attack.

 Following the Israeli airstrike, several additional rounds of rocket fire were launched into Israel.

The fighting broke out as Egyptian mediators were in Gaza trying to convince the terror group to agree to an expanded cease-fire deal.

Israel and Hamas are bitter enemies and have fought three wars since the Islamic terror organization seized power n a bloody 2007 coup in Gaza from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party. Smaller flare-ups have occurred sporadically since Israel and Hamas fought their last war, in 2014.

The sudden outburst of fighting comes at a sensitive time for both sides. Israel is holding national elections in less than a month. Netanyahu is locked in a tight fight for re-election and could face heavy criticism from his opponents if he is seen as ineffective against the terror threat.

 

Cabinet Minister Naftali Bennett, a rival of Netanyahu’s, called on the prime minister to convene a gathering of his Security Cabinet and demand the army “present a plan to defeat Hamas.”

 

Likewise, Hamas has come under rare public criticism in Gaza for the harsh conditions in the territory. An Israeli-Egyptian blockade, combined with sanctions by the rival Palestinian Authority and mismanagement by the Hamas government, have fueled an economic crisis in the territory.

 Residents have little desire for another war with Israel.

Earlier Thursday, Hamas police violently broke up a protest over the harsh living conditions.

 

 Israel holds Hamas responsible for all fire coming out of the territory. Financed by Iran, Hamas possesses a large arsenal of rockets and missiles capable of striking deep inside Israel.

Hamas denied responsibility for the attack on Tel Aviv, saying the rockets were launched when the group’s military wing was meeting with the Egyptian mediators.

In an unusual step that indicated Hamas was attempting to prevent further escalation, the Hamas Interior Ministry said the rocket fire went “against the national consensus” and promised to take action against the perpetrators.

 

But Israel’s military concluded that Hamas was responsible. In a statement early Friday, the army said “we can confirm” that Hamas carried out the rocket attack.

 

 

 



Israel spränger Hezballahs terrortunnlar

Israel började idag förstöra ett antal tunnlar, som Hezballah

The Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday launched an operation to
destroy a number of cross-border attack tunnels that it says were
dug by the Iran-backed Hezbollah group into northern Israel
from Lebanon.

Announcing the launch of Operation Northern Shield, IDF spokes-
person Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus said “a number of tunnels”
had penetrated Israeli territory and forces were working on the
Israeli side of the frontier to destroy them.

"We see Hezbollah’s actions as a flagrant and blatant violation

of Israeli sovereignty,” he said.

      

 
               

The military said it believed these tunnels were for
offensive purposes, unlike the tunnels and underground
bunkers used by Hezbollah during the 2006 Second
Lebanon War, which were primarily used for its 
 defensive strategies.
Conricus said the tunnels “are not yet operationally ready”
and therefore did not pose an “immediate threat.”

The operation came as tensions on Israel’s northern border
have ramped up in recent days, and hours after
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traveled to Brussels
for a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
to discuss Iran and security challenges on Israel’s
northern  border, likely referring to Hezbollah.

Israeli security chiefs were holding security assessments
throughout the day on Tuesday in order to predict Hezbollah’s
reaction to the IDF operation.

The Israeli military’s Arabic-language spokesperson called
on Hezbollah members and Lebanese citizens to keep away
from the tunnels. “You’ve been warned,” he wrote on Twitter.

Israel has long said that Hezbollah planned to conduct cross-
border raids in any future conflict, with the specific goal
of attacking and conquering a civilian town near the
border. Northern residents have raised fears in recent
years of attack tunnels being dug under the border, spurring
the IDF to launch a task force to investigate the concerns
in 2014.

“[Hezbollah’s] main goal is to kill as many people as they can
in [Israeli] villages and army bases,” a senior officer IDF
officer said earlier this year, in a briefing to reporters on
the Lebanese border.

dödats vid en aktion inne i Gaza.

Vid beskjutningen har Iron Dome plockat ned ca 100

missiler som var på väg mot bebyggda områden.

Negevöknen.

IDF har slagit tillbaka med över 150 flygattacker.

said Monday that Israel has boosted forces near

the Gaza border with additional infantry troops,

defensive systems and intelligence units.

IDF slog redan under söndagen ut en

av Hamas ledande terrorchefer vid en flygattack.

Regeringen har samlats på tisdagsmorgonen för

Stor manöver i Israel mot Hizballah

Israel genomför just nu en stor manöver mot Hizballah-

terroristerna i Libanon. Fallskärmsjägarbrigaden, Golani-
brigaden, flygvapnet, attackhelikoptrar och stora
artillerienheter deltar under den veckolånga
övningen.

Man övar särskilt strid i bebyggelse och i ökenområden 

liksom snabba insatser med helikoptrar.

Efterhand som Iran drar tillbaka allt större
Hizballahstyrkor från Syrien ökan spänningen
i gränsområdet Israel-Libanon.

I praktiken kontrollerar Hizballah den libanesiska
regeringen och trappar för varje månad upp retoriken
mot Israel. IDF tycks nu förbereda sig på ett angrepp
i norr.
Det blir en välbeväpnad och stridsvan motståndare
Israel har att möta.

Hamas i misslyckat storangrepp

Sedan fredag kväll har Israel varit utsatt för över

200 missiler och granater från Gaza. Luftvärnssystemet

Iron Dome har fungerat väl och skjutit ned nästan

alla raketer på väg mot tätbebyggda områden.

I staden Sderot träffades dock en villa, där tre

personer skadades. Ytterligare två missiler

träffade gatumark utan personskador.

Som vanligt har Sderotborna femton sekunder

att ta skydd.... 

Samtidigt med granatregnet sände Hamas

iväg ett mängd drakar och ballonger med

brandbomber. Jordbrukarna i Negev kämpar

återigen med att skydda sina fält.

också.

Nya angrepp från Hamas

Efter några lugna dygn präglades helgen av

nya terroristangrepp från Gaza.

Israelerna i Negevöknen utsattes för dussintals

artilleri- och granatattacker. Samtidigt fortsatte

Hamas sända drakar och ballonger med brand-
bomber in över de israeliska jordbruken för att
orsaka stora bränder före skörden.

Hjältestaden Sderot besköts med sex missiler.

Fyra sköts ned av Iron Dome , en störtade redan

i Gaza och den sista landade i öknen.

In response to the renewed fire on Israel, Israel
Air Force (IAF) fighter jets targeted 10 terror
sites in three military compounds belonging
to the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip.
Among the targets were two Hamas munitions-
manufacturing and storage sites and a military
compound.
Later in the night, as the rocket attacks on Israel
continued, IAF fighters bombed five terror targets
at a military compound belonging to Hamas’s
naval force in northern Gaza.

On Sunday, Palestinians from Gaza breached the
border fence and torched construction equipment
within Israeli territory, after which they fled back
to the Strip, the army reported.

The assailants set fire to shipping containers belonging
to civilian contractors working on the security barrier
and damaged Israeli “security infrastructure” close
to the border.

These terror activities included the planting of a grenade
on the border, hurling explosive devices at IDF forces
securing the border, attempts to cross the security fence,
damaging  security infrastructure, and the igniting of some
40 fires in Israeli territory with the use of arson kites and
balloons.

“The weekend’s events are a continuation of Hamas’ repeated
attempts to turn the area next to the security fence into a violent
zone both above and below ground, conduct terror attacks,
damage security infrastructure and endanger lives of Israeli
civilians and IDF soldiers,” the IDF charged.

“The IDF views these ongoing attempts with great
severity and is determined to fulfill its mission to protect
and ensure the safety of Israeli civilians as needed,” the
IDF stated, noting that “Hamas is solely responsible for
all events that transpire in the Gaza Strip and emanate
from it. If Hamas continues relying on terror instead
of solving the issues that plague Gazan civilians, it will
continue paying a heavy price that will increase
as necessary.”

Saturday night’s violence and Sunday’s infiltration incident
occurred after several days of quiet. The tensions on Israel’s
border with Gaza flared up on Tuesday when terrorists
fired more than 100 projectiles at Israel, the
worst bombardment Israel has experienced since
Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014.
